At the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), India recently shared a clear and powerful message with the world. Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s belief that “peace is the only way,” India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, talked about the big problems our world faces today and how we can solve them together.
In a time when wars are causing global panic and trade issues, India stood out as a confident leader speaking up for developing countries.
Here are the main points from India’s message to the world:
1. Helping the “Global South” and Fixing the 4Fs
India warned that the world is becoming too divided. Powerful countries are using things like money, technology, and trade to control others. This hits developing countries (often called the Global South) the hardest.
India highlighted the “4F Crisis,” which stands for Food, Fuel, Fertilizer, and Finance. When big countries fight, smaller nations suffer from shortages of these four essential things. India stressed that the basic needs and growth of developing nations must not be ignored just because powerful countries are fighting.
2. A Strict Stand Against Terrorism
India was very direct about terrorism. The message was clear: there is no excuse for terrorism, and countries that support or hide terrorists must be held responsible.
Instead of just complaining about how other powerful nations treat terrorism differently based on their own interests, India made it known that it will fiercely defend itself. Friendship and terrorism simply cannot exist together. The networks that give money to terrorists must be exposed and shut down.
3. Security is About More Than Just Armies
India reminded the UN that “security” does not just mean having a strong military. True global security also means:
Safe Trade: Keeping shipping routes and oceans safe so countries can trade freely without fear.
Fair Rules: Making sure all countries follow international laws and respect each other’s borders.
Technology for All: Ensuring new technologies, like Artificial Intelligence (AI), are used to help people grow, rather than being controlled by just a few rich countries.
4. It’s Time to Update the United Nations
A major theme of India’s speech was that the world has changed, but the United Nations has not. The UN was built in 1945, and its old rules make it hard to stop modern wars.
Because the UN is struggling to keep the peace, countries are looking for other ways to work together. India has taken a lead role in groups like the G20 and BRICS to make sure the voices of poorer countries are heard.
Instead of just pointing out problems, India is offering real solutions. From sharing medicines during crises to offering digital technology and green climate ideas, India is actively helping the world move forward.
Summary
India’s message at the UN was a strong statement of leadership. It showed a country that wants peace but refuses to be bullied by terrorism. By standing up for smaller countries and demanding that old global systems be updated, India proved it is ready to help guide the world toward a fairer, safer, and more peaceful future.
