The Indian government has started a big new project called Mission Samriddh Gaon (Mission Prosperous Village). The goal is to make rural areas free from poverty, create jobs, and provide good basic facilities. This project aims to double farmers’ incomes and stop people from having to leave their villages just to find work.
The project was officially started by Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the Union Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development. Right now, it is being tested in two places in Madhya Pradesh: the Budhni block (Sehore district) and the Khategaon block (Dewas district).
Recently, experts discussed this new plan on a television program to explain how it will help rural India. Here are the main points:
Bringing Everything Together
Experts believe that India cannot fully develop unless its villages develop first. What makes Mission Samriddh Gaon special is that it brings different areas together—like farming, health, education, and job creation. Instead of having separate programs for each of these, this mission combines them to work as one big plan.
The project focuses on three levels: the individual family, the village council (Gram Panchayat), and the local block. This ensures that every single home gets a chance to earn a better living.
Modern Farming and Problem Solving
To make this mission work, the government is focusing on solving common farming problems. For example, many farmers only own small pieces of land, and there are often arguments over who owns what. The government has already put land records online, which has stopped many of these arguments.
The plan also connects different government helpful schemes, like water saving and tree planting. It also wants to bring new technology to villages:
Using Drones: Farmers will learn to use drones to spray fertilizers and protect crops from bugs. Because many farms are small, farmers will be encouraged to work together in groups to share these drones.
Better Storage: Sometimes farmers grow a lot of food but can’t sell it for a good price because everyone is selling at the same time. The government wants to provide better storage spaces so farmers can keep their crops safe and sell them when prices are higher.
Stopping People from Leaving Villages
A major goal of this mission is to create enough jobs in villages so people don’t feel forced to move to big cities. In some hilly areas, entire villages have become empty because everyone left to find work.
To stop this, the government wants farmers to see farming as a real business, not just a way to survive. Farmers are being encouraged to grow different things instead of just regular crops like wheat and rice.
For example: One village in the mountains started keeping bees. Now, every house makes honey, and buyers come straight to the village to buy it. Because of this new business, the young people in that village don’t have to leave to find work anymore. The mission wants to help other villages start similar businesses, like growing mushrooms or farming in greenhouses.
Focusing on Women
Women play a huge role in village life and farming. The mission strongly believes that if you empower women, you help the whole community. Following the success of other programs for women, Mission Samriddh Gaon will give special attention to helping women start businesses and earn their own money. When women succeed, their families and children do better too.

Right now, Mission Samriddh Gaon is just starting as a test in Madhya Pradesh. But if it works well, the government plans to bring this model to villages all across India. By using new technology, trying new types of farming, helping women, and bringing services together, this mission hopes to make Indian villages modern, wealthy, and strong.
