India’s Push for Peace: Choosing Talk Over Weapons

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently shared a strong message with Russian President Vladimir Putin during a major international meeting. He said the world needs to stop fighting “endless wars” and instead focus on ending them. This matches India’s long-standing belief, inspired by leaders like Buddha and Gandhi, that real solutions are found through talking, not fighting.

A Clear Stand on Peace

This isn’t the first time India has spoken up. Back in 2022, PM Modi famously told global leaders that “today is not the time for war.” India believes that problems cannot be solved by shedding blood. Instead, countries must sit down at the negotiating table. Whenever there is a conflict, India always chooses the side of peace and asks for violence to stop immediately.

How Wars Hurt Everyone

When big countries fight, the whole world suffers. Ongoing conflicts—like the war between Russia and Ukraine—disrupt everyday life everywhere. They cause major shortages in food and fuel, and make it hard to transport goods around the world. Developing and poorer nations are usually hit the hardest by these problems.

Why is it Hard to Stop Fighting?

If wars are so bad for the world, why don’t they just stop? Experts point out two main reasons:

Leader Ego and Pride: Leaders often fear that stopping a war or making a compromise will make them look weak. Even when a war lasts much longer than they expected, they keep fighting just to save face.

Weak Global Rules: Organizations like the United Nations (UN) were created to stop wars and keep the peace. However, they often fail because the most powerful countries have the ability to block (or veto) any decision they don’t like.

How India Can Help

India is in a very unique position today. It has good relationships with countries on both sides of different conflicts—including Russia, Ukraine, Iran, Israel, and Western nations.

While India cannot force any country to lay down its weapons, it can use its global friendships to encourage peace. By teaming up with other neutral countries in big global groups like the G20 or BRICS, India can put positive pressure on fighting nations. The ultimate goal is to help these countries find a respectful way to end their conflicts so the world can move forward in peace.
